Leave it inside. If you have an object stuck in your skin, such as a nail, leave it there. It can prevent the bleeding from getting worse. However, if the puncture object is small and you can easily remove it, do so.
Do not eat or drink. This one is mostly for kids. They may need medication to calm them down so the doctor can put in stitches. If they have something to eat or drink, they may have to wait longer for treatment.
Apply pressure. Use a clean towel or bandage to apply direct pressure to the wound. Try to keep the injured area above the heart to stop or slow the bleeding. Do not remove the old bandage if it bleeds. Just put another one on top of it.
